About
Our mission is to amplify local and international creators by hosting events that strengthen community and the exchange of ideas.
History
In 1981, Wendy and Nick met as art students, married, and build their lives together in Detroit and Chicago. In 2018, after their daughters moved away, Nick retired and Wendy took a sabbatical. They set out for an adventure traveling throughout the United States and into Baja California Sur.
One afternoon, while staying in San Antonio de las Minas, they met the owners of Rotorno Winery, Adrian Garcia and Ana Fuente. Ana and Adrian invited Wendy and Nick to a soccer game which changed the trajectory of their lives. At the game they met Axel del la Torre and Claudia Turrent, the architects at Cla Cla, and decided to move to Baja. Their mission was to build a gallery and share their home with others to facilitate creative exchange and strengthen their community.
Claudia helped them locate a property in El Tigre and designed a house, casita, and galeria out of cob, an earthen construction technique. Many hardworking artisans came together to build the three amazing structures. In 2021, after three years of construction, Galeria Dos Hijas held its Grand Opening.
Since then, the Galeria has hosted a variety of events showcasing visual art, installations, fashion, and live performances with local and international artists as well as culinary offerings.
Galeria Dos Hijas is named after Wendy and Nick’s other shared endeavor - raising their daughters Simone and Gabrielle.
Earthen Architecture
Galeria Dos Hijas is built entirely out of local clay, sand and straw - a historical building technique known as cob.
